Amstrad CPC464

A dear friend brought this computer for me on a trip from Spain, where these were much more common

Work done:

Exterior inspection:

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the outside before taking it apart. I will add new pictures soon.

Interior inspection:

On the inside I found a PCB is overall good condition

One of the capacitors had cracked and had to be replaced:

I also clipped the long leads, likely forgotten at the factory:

Cassette drive repair

When I got the computer, the tape drive was not engaging correctly. After cleaning and lubricating, it worked correctly again:

A common problem on these machines is a broken reset button for the tape counter. This was easily replaced with a 3D printed version:

Faulty RAM

Initially there were no issues with the computer itself, but after a while a fault developed that looked like a faulty RAM IC:

Bad screen

I used the fantastic Amstrad Diagnostics ROM by Noel Llopis to diagnose which IC was at fault:

Here is the replaced IC:

Clean up

The inside of the case and in particular the keyboard were very dirty, which is expected from a nearly 40-year-old computer:

After a full cleaning, the computer was assembled again.
