Amstrad PPC512 A
A dear friend brought this computer from me from Spain, together with a similar version with a Spanish keyboard.
This is easily my favorite portable computer, its chunky size and odd way of opening all work together to form a beautiful, quirky design.
Work done:
- Swap keyboard
- Upgrade memory to 640K
Planned work:
- Add an embedded XT-IDE adapter
Exterior inspection:
Aside from some yellowed plastic, the computer is in great condition:


On the right are two Goteks, which were already installed when I received it.

On the left are dip switches which configure the video settings

The bottom contains a battery compartment which take normal D-cells


To open it, fold the keyboard down and raise the screen

Interior inspections:
The main components are divided between two boards, sandwiched together with connectors.

Memory upgrade
Upgrading the standard 512K memory to 640K is pretty straight forward, just add more memory ICs:
